Year Of Sustainability Unveils Engaging On-Ground Events Focused On Environmental Practices In UAE

The Year of Sustainability, under the theme "Plan To Action," has unveiled a series of public events and activities. These initiatives focus on four main areas: green transportation, reducing water and energy use, responsible consumption, and wise planting. The events aim to involve both individuals and organisations across the UAE to amplify collective environmental efforts.

Rauda Al Falasi, Deputy Project Lead at the Year of Sustainability, stated, "At the heart of any successful sustainability initiative is collective action. Our efforts at the Year of Sustainability are focused on driving lasting, impactful change by encouraging actionable steps. Both individuals and entities play crucial roles in shaping a more sustainable future for our nation, and we want to target challenges to sustainability both, through small daily actions, and larger organisational commitments to achieve a ripple effect."

The initiative has planned events from October until the end of the year. These activities are designed to engage people and organisations in sustainable practices throughout the UAE. By focusing on practical actions, they aim to foster long-term environmental benefits.

One notable event is "Duroor Nights," organised with Sadeem Astronomy and Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences and Technology. This event merges ancient Duroor methods with modern celestial exploration. Participants will gather on moonless nights to observe stars and planets using the Cosmic Cube. It includes an indoor session by AlSadeem in Abu Dhabi and an outdoor desert camping session by Sharjah Academy.

"From Farm to Haseer" offers an immersive experience focused on local farming and traditional crafts. Participants will engage in farm tours, interactive workshops, butter-making, cooking with local ingredients, herb planting, and community discussions. This aligns with one of this year's key focus areas: planting wisely.

The "Mangrove Champions" initiative involves mangrove planting and cleanup events across the UAE. Mangroves are vital for reducing carbon emissions and protecting coastlines from erosion and extreme weather events like flooding.

The Year of Sustainability's activities highlight the importance of collective action in addressing environmental challenges. By involving both individuals and organisations in these initiatives, they aim to create a ripple effect that promotes sustainable practices throughout the nation.
