Xposure 2026 Expands With Five New Visual Storytelling Zones At Sharjah Festival

The Xposure International Photography Festival 2026 is preparing a large-scale experience built around ten themed zones, with organisers expecting more than 30,000 visitors at Aljada in Sharjah between 29th January and 4th February. The event highlights photography as a key tool for documenting reality, sharing knowledge, and encouraging cultural dialogue across different communities.

Marking its tenth edition under the theme "A Decade of Visual Storytelling," Xposure 2026 adopts a comprehensive layout that links visual displays with talks and public engagement. Each zone focuses on a specific field of photography, allowing visitors to move between subjects such as identity, memory, the environment, conflict, and broader social change in a structured way.

Xposure 2026 adds five new zones

The overall festival is organised into ten specialised zones. Five are established areas, and five are new immersive worlds for 2026. Together they create a visual and intellectual landscape that connects artistic practice with real-world issues, presenting photography as both creative expression and an organised method for understanding how contemporary societies are changing.

The five existing zones are the Athens Zone, Global Focus Project Zone, Photojournalism Zone, Portrait & People Zone, Conservation Summit Zone, and Documentary Projects Zone. These areas explore, among other themes, media reporting, long-form visual narratives, conservation concerns, and the ways portraits help record identity and memory. They also host talks, panel discussions, and meetings with photographers and experts.

The five newly announced immersive zones broaden the visitor journey by creating distinct thematic environments. The Courtyard zone concentrates on everyday life through candid observation. Sports & Action Photography examines movement and competition. Nature & Wildlife Photography focuses on ecosystems and species. Travel & Adventure Photography addresses exploration, while Fine Art & Creative Expression Photography highlights experimental and conceptual work.

Across these new zones, visitors encounter exhibitions from leading international photographers, supported by specialised talks, panel discussions, and dedicated encounters linked to each subject. This integrated programme encourages observation, learning, and interaction, positioning Xposure 2026 as a space where visual storytelling helps audiences understand humanity and the wide range of transformations currently shaping the modern world.
