World Tourism Day Highlights Dubai's Cultural Heritage And Its Role In Global Tourism

Dubai is a prominent destination on the global tourism map, celebrated for its visionary outlook and rich cultural heritage. This city uniquely blends modernity with tradition, attracting millions of visitors worldwide. As the world observes World Tourism Day on 27th September, Dubai's role in fostering cultural exchange and understanding is highlighted under the theme "Tourism and Peace."

Dubai has been named the top global destination in the 2024 Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice Awards for the third consecutive year. This recognition underscores its dedication to cultural tourism, supported by world-class infrastructure and unique offerings. The city's commitment to this sector plays a crucial role in promoting peace and reconciliation among nations.

The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) significantly enhances cultural tourism in the emirate. It offers visitors immersive experiences through museums, historic sites, and heritage landmarks. With five museums, five heritage sites, and 17 archaeological sites, Dubai Culture showcases the city's rich history and cultural essence.

Al Shindagha Museum stands out as a 'hidden gem,' offering unique cultural pathways that highlight local traditions' authenticity. It is the UAE’s largest open-air heritage museum. Meanwhile, Etihad Museum captivates visitors with its unique concept, narrating the story of the UAE’s formation and development through a carefully curated timeline.

The Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood remains one of Dubai’s most beloved tourist destinations. Visitors can step back in time to experience traditional life from the mid-19th century to the 1970s. Its narrow alleyways and historic houses reflect Dubai's artistic identity rooted in its cultural heritage.

Hatta Heritage Village showcases traditional architecture distinctive to Hatta. Recognised by Condé Nast Traveler as one of the world's most beautiful small cities for 2023, it offers visitors insights into Hatta's natural history and customs.

Archaeological Discoveries in Dubai

Dubai's archaeological sites offer a journey through ancient history spanning over 300,000 years. Saruq al-Hadid is one of these significant discoveries made by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in 2002. Artefacts from this site are displayed at Saruq al-Hadid Museum in Al Shindagha Historic Neighbourhood.

Similarly, Jumeirah Archaeological Site dates back to the Islamic era (900–1800 AD). It reflects Jumeirah region's historical significance during the Abbasid Caliphate period.
