World Taekwondo Council Elects Hosts For Major Events Through To 2027
The World Taekwondo Council convened before the World Taekwondo Cadet Championships in Fujairah to select future hosts for events up to 2027. This decision aims to create a comprehensive competition schedule, enhancing opportunities for athletes as they prepare for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
Next year's World Taekwondo Grand Prix will take place in Rome, Italy; Muju, Korea; and Paris, France. The Grand Prix Final and World Taekwondo Gala Awards are set for Astana, Kazakhstan. In 2027, Rome, Paris, and Manchester will host the Grand Prix events, with the final and awards in Taian, China.

Muju will also host the World Taekwondo Grand Prix Challenge 3 in 2027. This event allows more athletes to qualify under a new Olympic ranking system introduced by World Taekwondo for LA28. These cities have a history of hosting successful Taekwondo events and presented strong proposals to the council.
The 2026 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships will be held in Chuncheon, Korea. This city was chosen over Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Tashkent, Uzbekistan secured the 2026 World Taekwondo Junior Championships against Chongqing, China. Athens, Greece was selected for the 2027 World Taekwondo Cadet Championships over Pune, India.
This year's World Taekwondo Women's Open Championships are awarded to Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. The 2026 edition will take place in Taiyuan, China. Nairobi, Kenya is set to host the 2025 World Taekwondo Under-21 Championships.
World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue stated: "Today’s event allocations by the World Taekwondo Council demonstrate the global strength of Taekwondo and secure world-class hosts for our athletes to compete. Congratulations to all bidding Member National Associations (MNAs). We look forward to attending the wonderful events in your countries."
The decisions made by the council highlight the sport's global appeal and ensure top-tier venues for upcoming competitions. These selections reflect a commitment to providing diverse locations that support athlete development worldwide.
