Biodiversity Spotlight At World Preservation Lab And BioVault During World Governments Summit 2026
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has visited the World Preservation Lab and BioVault, an immersive scientific experience at the World Governments Summit 2026. Presented by the Museum of the Future with Colossal Biosciences, the exhibit uses advanced biotechnology themes to show how science may protect biodiversity and restore fragile ecosystems.
During the tour, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed explored interactive sections that detail methods to conserve endangered species and re-establish lost habitats. The installation highlights current research directions in genetics, ecology, and conservation biology, while also raising public awareness about global environmental risks and the pressures facing natural systems in the region and worldwide.
The World Preservation Lab and BioVault offers participants a multi-sensory audio-visual journey centred on biodiversity protection and environmental responsibility. Visitors pass through six themed stages that demonstrate de-extinction processes for species including the Tasmanian tiger (thylacine), the dodo, and the mammoth, using 3D-printed skeletons, holograms, dynamic lighting, and special visual effects to explain complex concepts.
A key element within the World Preservation Lab and BioVault is the BioVault, which is presented as a secure storehouse for cells and genetic material from endangered animals. The concept underlines how biobanking could help preserve genetic diversity, support future species recovery projects, and maintain resilient ecosystems across different continents, including sensitive landscapes relevant to the UAE and wider Middle East.
H.H. Sheikh Mohammed was accompanied by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum during the visit. Also present were H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, and several ministers and senior officials, reflecting high-level institutional interest in environmental innovation.
The World Preservation Lab and BioVault at the summit underscores the importance of knowledge partnerships and international scientific collaboration in responding to environmental challenges. By hosting this experience, the UAE signals support for research-led approaches that address current biodiversity loss while preparing tools and frameworks that could help manage future ecological pressures.
