World Commemorates International Day Of Human Fraternity With Global Initiatives And Events

The "International Day for Human Fraternity" will be observed tomorrow, a day recognised by the UN General Assembly. This occasion marks the signing of the Document on Human Fraternity on 4th February 2019 in Abu Dhabi. The agreement was signed by His Eminence Dr. Ahmed El-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, and His Holiness Pope Francis, Head of the Catholic Church, symbolising a commitment to coexistence and understanding.

This annual event encourages principles of tolerance, unity, and peaceful coexistence among diverse communities. Coinciding with this observance, the UAE will host the fifth Global Conference on Tolerance and Human Fraternity on Wednesday. Organised by the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence with partners like the Muslim Council of Elders and the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity, this two-day conference will focus on "Peace, Human Dignity, and Peaceful Coexistence."

International Day of Human Fraternity Observed Worldwide

Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, expressed pride in the UAE’s leadership in promoting human fraternity. He highlighted that the UN's recognition of this day and related events are due to President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's efforts. His vision has united global leaders to support the Document on Human Fraternity's principles.

The conference will gather international, regional, and UN representatives to discuss global harmony issues. Since its inception, the Document on Human Fraternity has inspired several UAE-led initiatives aimed at fostering peace and coexistence worldwide.

A significant project inspired by this document is the Abrahamic Family House on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi. This site includes a church, mosque, and synagogue under one roof, showcasing interfaith harmony. Additionally, the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity honours individuals and organisations promoting tolerance globally.

The award is named after Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, UAE’s Founding Father. It reflects his legacy of humanitarianism and dialogue. Furthermore, the UAE hosts the Abu Dhabi Forum for Peace annually to address humanitarian issues stemming from sectarian conflicts in Muslim communities.

The International Day for Human Fraternity serves as a reminder of these efforts towards global unity. It underscores ongoing initiatives that aim to build bridges between different cultures and religions worldwide.
