World Green Economy Summit 2024 To Convene Global Experts In Dubai

The 10th World Green Economy Summit (WGES) will gather global experts, government representatives, international organisations, academics, and the media. Scheduled for 2-3 October 2024 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, the summit aims to enhance international cooperation and foster dialogue on environmental and economic objectives, as well as building a sustainable and inclusive future.

WGES 2024 will focus on key themes aimed at advancing the transition towards a green and sustainable economy. These include decarbonisation and net zero goals, clean energy advancements, climate finance, circular economy, policy and regulatory frameworks, using technology to tackle climate change, youth in climate change, and food and water.

WGES 2024  Global Sustainability Dialogue

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), and Chairman of the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO), said, "Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, we aim to foster global cooperation by providing a platform that unites stakeholders from around the world.

"This platform allows them to share their insights, knowledge, and experiences, contributing to the enhancement of global climate action and the development of effective solutions for positive change. Our goals include achieving sustainable development, ensuring a fair energy transition, and accelerating the shift towards a sustainable green economy. These efforts reflect the UAE's leadership and pivotal role in global climate action. We are confident that this year's summit will have significant discussions and yield fruitful results across its various themes and issues."

Through its various sessions, the summit will provide a platform for dialogue. It will highlight forward-looking sustainable solutions based on innovation and the latest technologies. These discussions aim to support collective global efforts in climate action and promote the advancement of the global green economy.

Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure stated that WGES is crucial in building a sustainable green economy aligned with national vision. He emphasised that transitioning to a green economy is both an environmental obligation and an opportunity for innovation. "We put high emphasis on collaborative work between government and private sector," he said.

Al Mazrouei further noted that public-private partnerships are essential for sustainability challenges. He believes WGES will contribute significantly to developing effective solutions for an integrated green economy.

Helmut Von Struve, CEO of Siemens Middle East commented on Siemens' participation in WGES. "The World Green Economy Summit is one of the region’s top sustainability events," he said. Siemens' technology helps utilities integrate renewable energy into grids reliably. Siemens Xcelerator offers digital solutions for building management and power supply.

Von Struve looks forward to discussing developments with partners at WGES. He highlighted Siemens' role in supporting battery manufacturers through efficient digital services.

Gauri Singh, Deputy Director General of IRENA added insights on energy transition requiring an economy-wide effort. "Policies supporting renewable energy must be part of a broader framework," she said. Singh stressed that structural changes are needed for successful transitions promoting equitable outcomes.

The summit aims to bring together experts from various sectors to find best approaches for shifting to a green economy. The event underscores UAE's commitment to leading global climate action efforts.

The event promises significant discussions across its themes aiming at fruitful results. The collective goal is achieving sustainable development while ensuring fair energy transitions globally.
