World Energy Day Highlights UAE’s Leadership In Clean And Renewable Energy Transition Efforts

World Energy Day, celebrated annually on 22nd October, is a call for global collaboration in energy sustainability. Initiated by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and adopted by 54 countries, it highlights the UAE's achievements in sustainable energy. The day promotes safe energy access and encourages policies balancing economic growth with environmental protection.

H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum emphasised the UAE's commitment to sustainability, stating, "Thanks to the vision and directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, the UAE has established a pioneering development model that balances economic growth with the protection of the environment and natural resources."

UAE Leads on World Energy Day for Clean Energy

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer highlighted Dubai's efforts in renewable energy. He noted that projects like the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park are crucial for increasing clean energy's share in Dubai’s mix. By 2030, this solar park aims to reach over 8,000 MW capacity, significantly reducing carbon emissions.

Suhail Al Mazrouei stressed the importance of sustainability in energy. He stated that the UAE is committed to clean energy goals through its Energy Strategy 2050. "The UAE takes confident steps to achieve its clean energy targets," he said, noting that current renewable capacity stands at 6.8 GW alongside 5.6 GW of nuclear power.

Ahmad Bin Shafar from Empower discussed their role in enhancing energy efficiency through district cooling solutions. These innovations help reduce electricity consumption and carbon footprint while promoting a green economy. Empower focuses on balancing economic growth with environmental preservation.

Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi highlighted the critical role of energy in sustainable development. He emphasised innovation and smart investments in clean energy as essential for protecting the environment and ensuring future generations have access to sustainable resources.

Commitment to Global Sustainability Goals

Yousif Ahmed Al Ali from Etihad Water and Electricity noted that World Energy Day reflects the UAE’s leadership vision prioritising climate action. Projects like the Distributed Solar System promote clean energy expansion across Northern Emirates, contributing to national sustainability goals.

Ahmad Bin Shafar added that World Energy Day renews commitment to achieving UAE's Net Zero 2050 Strategy by enhancing energy efficiency. He mentioned that developing policies considering international landscapes is crucial for providing safe and sustainable energy supporting societal well-being.

The UAE continues advancing towards its Net Zero by 2050 goals through transformative technologies in water and electricity sectors. Smart metering systems and AI applications enhance operational efficiency while supporting a resilient economy driven by knowledge and innovation.
