Women's Labor Market Participation Drives Economic Growth In Saudi Arabia Aligned With Vision 2030 Goals

Women’s Role in Saudi Economic Growth

Recent changes to Saudi Labor Law have further supported women by extending paid maternity leave to 12 weeks. This change provides crucial time for women to balance family responsibilities without risking job stability. Additionally, flexible work arrangements such as freelance, flexible, and remote work options have been adopted. These arrangements accommodate women's social circumstances, supporting their ongoing participation in the labor market while enhancing their quality of life.

The Parallel Training initiative has been instrumental in enhancing women's skills and competencies. Over 122,000 job seekers have benefited from specialized training programs designed to ensure sustained employment within private sector establishments. To support working mothers, the ministry has developed an integrated childcare services system accessible through specialized platforms, facilitating access to guesthouse and childcare services.

This system promotes job stability and increased productivity among working mothers. The Saudi labor market has seen remarkable growth in women's economic participation. From 2017 to the end of the third quarter of 2024, the participation rate rose from 21.2% to 35.4%. The economic participation rate for Saudi women over 15 years old reached 36.2%, with women holding senior and middle management positions increasing from 28.6% in 2017 to 43.8% in 2024.
