Wolverine Makes History By Retaining Light Heavyweight Title In First-Ever Power Slap Fight In Abu Dhabi

The Power Slap event returned to the UAE, thrilling fans with $VET POWER SLAP 16: Wolverine vs Klingbeil Presented by Monster Energy. Held at Space42 Arena during Abu Dhabi Showdown Week, the night was filled with excitement. The main event saw Wolverine defend his heavyweight title against Alan "The Kryptonian" Klingbeil in a historic sudden-death round, winning by split decision (57–56 Klingbeil, 57–56 Wolverine, 57–56 Wolverine).

UFC President Dana White praised the match as "the best in Power Slap history," highlighting Wolverine's dominance in the division. The intense battle demonstrated both fighters' strength and endurance, keeping fans captivated until the end. The co-main event featured super-heavyweight Makini "Big Mak" Manu narrowly defeating Vasilii "Dumpling" Kamotskii by unanimous decision (29–28, 29–28, 29–28). This contest showcased the resilience and determination of both athletes.

Wolverine Retains Title at Power Slap Event

Power Slap CEO Frank Lamicella echoed Dana White's sentiments about the main event's significance. He stated: "I agree with Dana - the main event between Wolverine and Klingbeil was probably the best match we’ve ever had in Power Slap. What made it so special is that it became the first title fight to ever go into a sudden-victory round. You could feel the energy in the arena; the crowd absolutely loved it. It proved that having that rule in place was the right decision to determine the champion."

Lamicella also noted the diversity of fighters participating, saying: "We had fighters from eight countries tonight, including India, which was represented for the first time. We’re also seeing a lot of interest from this region when it comes to local talent. One of the reasons we bring Power Slap events to the Middle East is to discover new fighters. It’s much easier to bring international athletes here, and with every event, we’re seeing more countries represented on the card."

After his victory, Wolverine expressed his appreciation for the lively audience: "I really enjoyed the atmosphere out there - the crowd was on their feet and loud the entire time." His comments reflect how engaged and enthusiastic fans were throughout this memorable event.

With Power Slap 16 concluded, focus now turns to UFC 321: Aspinall vs Gane at Etihad Arena on Yas Island. This continues an exciting week of combat sports in Abu Dhabi, promising more thrilling moments for fans.
