Will Smith Explores Courage And Creativity In Engaging Talk At SIBF 2025

At the 44th Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) in 2025, Will Smith captivated the audience with his talk titled "The Power of Storytelling." Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority, welcomed him warmly. Before his appearance, she gifted Smith a signed copy of her new book, "Let Them Know She Is Here: Searching for the Queen of Mleiha," which deeply moved him.

Smith shared his thoughts on personal exploration and expression during the event. He admitted feeling that he had only revealed a small part of himself to the world. "I feel like there are parts of me that I have not explored and expressed. I feel that the things I have shared with the world are 10% of what’s going on in my head," he said. This introspection set the stage for a conversation rich with insight and humour.

Smith discussed how storytelling transcends language barriers by focusing on universal human experiences. He explained, "Birth, death, marriage, sickness - everyone goes through these experiences. I’m always looking for the part of a story that everyone understands, the part that doesn’t need language to translate." This approach highlights storytelling's global reach and emotional impact.

The actor also reflected on maintaining relevance across generations. He noted that staying current requires more than luck; it involves connecting with audiences through shared emotions and stories. "It’s beautiful to see that from one generation to the next, you can remain relevant — and I don’t think that comes by luck," Smith remarked.

In his conversation with Sheikha Bodour, Smith was inspired by her discussion about dreams and visions related to her book. He realised he needed courage to express his own dreams fully. "Sheikha Bodour and I were speaking earlier...and my heart jumped because there was a book that I was writing...I realised I’ve never been brave enough to say that I have dreams and visions too," he confessed.

This exchange highlighted Smith's ongoing journey toward self-expression and authenticity. His career spanning nearly four decades has been marked by introspection and growth. The dialogue at SIBF exemplified how personal connections can inspire creativity and courage in storytelling.

The event underscored the power of storytelling in bridging cultural gaps and fostering understanding among diverse audiences. By sharing personal insights and experiences, Smith demonstrated how stories can resonate universally, touching lives across different backgrounds.
