Tabuk Recognized As Healthy City By WHO, Showcasing Leadership And Healthcare Success
Tabuk, SPA – In a significant acknowledgment from the World Health Organization (WHO), Tabuk has been designated as a Healthy City, marking a notable achievement in Saudi Arabia's healthcare sector. Minister of Health Fahad bin Abdurrahman Al-Jalajel highlighted this recognition as a testament to the continuous support and dedication from the country's leadership towards enhancing healthcare services. This achievement not only showcases the commitment of the Tabuk Region's governor but also underscores the effective coordination led by the health affairs director and the concerted efforts of all sectors involved.
The Ministry of Health's Healthy Cities program, in its first collaboration with WHO Healthy Cities in the region and fourth globally, has successfully brought Jeddah, Madinah, Taif, and now Tabuk into the limelight by meeting 80 WHO criteria. These cities have set themselves apart through their well-maintained parks, accessible walking areas, and initiatives promoting health in primary care centers and schools. With 15 cities now accredited across various regions, Saudi Arabia boasts the highest number of Healthy Cities in the region, reflecting its commitment to elevating the standard of living and prioritizing health in developmental agendas.

The program's objectives are multifaceted, focusing on enhancing quality of life, making health a central aspect of development projects, and adopting health indicators that guide various initiatives aimed at sustainable health improvements. By addressing lifestyle-related chronic diseases, improving Saudi Arabia’s standing in global health rankings, and mitigating health risks and medical costs, the initiative is paving the way for a more vibrant and healthy society. This recognition by WHO not only honors the efforts made but also propels Saudi Arabia forward in its mission to foster a healthier future for its citizens.
