Al-Khobar Designated As Healthy City By WHO, Showcasing Saudi Leadership
Al-Khobar City has achieved the status of a healthy city, meeting 80 criteria set by the World Health Organization (WHO). This accomplishment was recognised with an international accreditation certificate. The city's parks, walking paths, and commitment to health promotion through schools and primary care centres contributed significantly to this achievement.
The Healthy Cities Programme, managed by the Ministry of Health, is notable for being the first WHO collaborating centre for healthy cities in the region and the fourth globally. Saudi Arabia leads the region with 16 accredited healthy cities spread across various areas. The programme aims to enhance life quality by setting future health targets, promoting sustainability initiatives, and reducing chronic diseases related to lifestyle.

Dr. Fahd bin Abdulrahman Al-Jalajel highlighted that WHO's recognition of Al-Khobar as a healthy city reflects the ongoing support from Prince Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Eastern Region, and other officials. He thanked all entities involved in the main committee and subcommittees for their contributions.
The accreditation certificate was officially received by Prince Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz and Dr. Fahd bin Abdulrahman Al-Jalajel. Their efforts were crucial in achieving this milestone for Al-Khobar City.
Various organisations played a role in this success, including the Eastern Province Emirate, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, Ministry of Commerce, General Directorate of Health Affairs in the Eastern Region, General Directorate of Civil Defense, General Directorate of Traffic, Eastern Region Police, General Directorate of Narcotics Control (GDNC), Eastern Province Municipality, Asharqia Chamber, Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu representatives, Technical and Vocational Training Corporation representatives, National Center for Environmental Compliance (NCEC), Coordination Council for Charitable Societies, community representatives from various segments, and the city coordinator.
