The World Governments Summit Organisation (WGS) recently held a significant dialogue titled "Media, Geopolitics, and the Future of Global Narratives." This event highlighted the changing role of media in shaping public discourse and influencing policy amidst global shifts. The session included Pedro Vargas David, Chairman of Euronews and CEO of Alpac Capital, along with key media executives, policymakers, and leaders from various sectors.

Mohamed Yousef Al Sharhan, Managing Director of WGS, stressed the importance of responsible journalism in promoting understanding and shared values in a divided world. He stated that media has evolved beyond merely reporting events to becoming a strategic partner in shaping public awareness and guiding policy decisions.

WGS Explores Media's Impact on Global Policy

Pedro Vargas David highlighted the crucial role of media in society. "Media is a cornerstone of our societal ecosystem. Amid rising misinformation, trusted journalism must serve as a stabilising force for informed dialogue and global cooperation," he said. This underscores the need for reliable journalism to counter misinformation and promote informed discussions.

The discussions also explored how media should adapt to geopolitical changes by embracing innovation responsibly. Participants emphasised creating narratives that reflect societal progress and diversity. Key themes included shifting global storytelling towards innovation rather than crisis and expanding Euronews into Asia, the Gulf, and Africa with culturally relevant editorial frameworks.

Another focus was balancing European identity with local contexts in emerging markets. Addressing AI's influence on content while maintaining quality and editorial independence was also discussed. The role of media as a cultural anchor in an interconnected world was highlighted as essential for fostering global understanding.

The session featured leaders from WGS’s strategic membership community, including organisations like the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority, Dubai Chambers, Dubai Investments, G42, General Motors, Amazon Web Services, The National, and Oracle. These participants reinforced WGS’s dedication to advancing global dialogue at the intersection of media, governance, and technology.

This event reaffirmed WGS's commitment to promoting narratives that contribute to a more open, inclusive future-ready world. By fostering discussions on media's evolving role amid geopolitical changes, WGS aims to shape narratives that encourage progress and inclusivity globally.
