WGES 2025: Global Leaders And Experts Gather To Innovate For A Sustainable Green Economy
The World Green Economy Summit (WGES) is set to host a diverse group of global leaders, experts, and innovators. This gathering underscores the summit's worldwide importance. The 11th edition, organised by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, DEWA, and WGEO, will occur on 1-2 October 2025 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The theme is ‘Innovating for Impact: Accelerating the Future of the Green Economy’.
WGES 2025 will explore seven key areas: technology and innovation, clean energy technologies, policy and regulation, finance, climate equity, adaptation and resilience, and youth in climate action. Sessions will present transformative solutions to combat climate change. Emphasis will be on empowering developing communities and enhancing public-private partnerships for a sustainable future.

The summit enjoys the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Notable participants include Sauli Niinistö, former president of Finland; H.H. Sheikha Dr Shamma bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan; Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei; Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak; Flavien Joubert; Max Andonirina Fontaine; and Muaviyath Mohamed.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer emphasised leadership support in enhancing global collaboration for net zero goals. He stated that WGES encourages green policies and investments in clean energy technologies. "The transition to a green economy is not only a necessity but also a global opportunity to drive economic growth," he said.
Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak highlighted the UAE's commitment to sustainability through strategic investments in renewable energy projects. She noted that sustainability aligns with economic growth through frameworks like Net Zero 2050. "Co-operation and collaboration form the bedrock of this undertaking," she added.

Flavien Joubert stressed global resource limitations and urged nations to consider environmental impacts during development. Max Andonirina Fontaine shared Madagascar’s focus on climate justice as part of daily struggles against droughts and floods. "The green transition must be just – or it will fail," he remarked.
Muaviyath Mohamed expressed Maldives' dedication to collaborating globally for climate action. Najeeb Saab discussed carbon neutrality's importance in combating climate change in vulnerable Arab regions. He noted significant investments in renewable energy by leading Arab oil-producing countries.
Regional Solutions for Climate Crisis
Naila Farouky spoke about regional solutions through AFF’s Arab Regional Climate Commitment initiative. This effort unites foundations, civil society, and public-private actors for sustainable responses rooted in local realities.
Dr. Tarifa Alzaabi from ICBA highlighted science-based solutions for a green economy focusing on climate-resilient agriculture and water security. Prof Nazia M Habib emphasised shared decisions in achieving a just green transition.
Michael Pollan noted that gatherings like WGES offer opportunities to reshape narratives around energy and food systems amid climate urgency. Anand Verma discussed AI's role in efficient renewable energy use and environmental risk prediction at WGES.

Speakers at WGES 2025 include Mohammad Junaid Essa from SCA UAE; Raad Al Saady from ACWA Power; Hakan Ozdemir from Siemens Middle East; Dr Samira Barzin from Oxford University; Beniamin Strzelecki; and Hoor Ahli, former COP28 Youth Climate delegate.
