WETEX 2025 Features 40 Specialised Seminars On Energy, Water Technology And Sustainability Innovations

The Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) 2025, organised by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), is hosting its 27th edition at the Dubai World Trade Centre from 30 September to 2 October. The event features 40 specialised seminars focusing on sustainability, renewable energy, and technological advancements in the energy sector.

During the seminar titled ‘Property Development Global Trends: Sustainability, Green Growth & Smart Ownership’, Dr. Waleed Alnuaimi, CEO of Etihad ESCO, highlighted the affordability and accessibility of renewable energy. He stated: "Renewable energy today is cheaper than ever, even solar panels, and it is accessible for anyone, even individuals. You can buy a smart system for your home, and once you go smart you never go back. It reduces costs and increases property value. With AI and data, we can run large portfolios with zero downtime and zero waste. But the technology is not enough. People and behaviours must change because without that change the targets of zero carbon and circular economy will never be reached."

WETEX 2025 Hosts Seminars on Energy and Water

Key discussions included ‘Rooftop Solar in Action’ which explored how EtihadWE’s distributed solar systems empower both customers and the grid. Another seminar addressed the role of HVDC technology in supporting energy transition through cross-border interconnectors. These sessions emphasised innovative solutions for a sustainable future.

In another session titled ‘How IoT and digital solutions for HV substation maintenance programmes minimise risk and increase uptime’, Andy Warner from Hitachi Energy explained: "Substation maintenance is no longer about fixing what’s broken — it’s about predicting what could fail and preventing it before it does. By integrating IoT, real-time monitoring, and risk-based strategies, we can reduce unplanned outages that cost millions, extend the lifespan of critical assets, and focus resources where they matter most. When we align maintenance with asset importance and revenue impact, it stops being a cost centre and becomes a driver of profitability and resilience — powering a smarter, stronger, and more reliable energy future."

Water-focused seminars covered topics like ‘Innovative RO Projection Software – AquaGrid’ which highlighted advancements in reverse osmosis technology. Other sessions discussed optimising pump efficiency using Triol’s patented algorithms to unlock energy savings. These innovations aim to enhance water management efficiency through cutting-edge technologies.

The seminar ‘The Polymer Shift: A Smarter Approach to Smart Desalination Infrastructure – from Intake to Outfall’ featured Rabih Solh from GF Corris Piping Systems LLC who said: "Polymers are becoming essential to modern desalination infrastructure, especially for mission-critical applications; starting with large-diameter intake and outfall systems and extending to various piping networks that demand high chemical resistance and reliable mechanical performance. In many of these applications, conventional materials fall short due to issues such as corrosion, erosion, limited longevity, brittleness over time, complex and sensitive installation, and inconsistent quality control. Advanced polymer piping solutions address these challenges helping to reduce water production costs extend system lifespan improve overall process sustainability By offering higher control – from design to operation – polymers bring measurable improvements across the entire project lifecycle."

AI's Role in Energy Systems

The seminar ‘Energy Internet Platform – AI-powered Decision and Orchestration System for the Dynamic Needs of the Energy Transition’ examined how AI platforms facilitate real-time decision-making in evolving energy systems. These platforms help optimise energy mixes while reducing costs by up to 30%.

Fahad Faisal from Fortinet spoke during ‘Resilient Utilities in the Age of AI: Cyber Defence for Sustainable Operations’. He remarked: "Five years from now we’ll look back at 2025 when everybody was panicking about AI realise it’s everywhere Just like cybersecurity once seemed impossible to adopt AI will eventually be part of every industrial OT environment Yes AI feels like a fearful word today but the real question is not whether it happens—it’s how we implement it In OT where revenue human lives are at risk AI must support operators not replace them The final mile final approval should always remain with end customer."

Sustainability Through Data-Driven Solutions

The panel discussion on ‘Data-Driven Efficiency – Moving from Audit to Action’ explored how data can drive improvements in energy efficiency when transitioning from audits to actionable steps. Panellists stressed that reliable data combined with digital innovations like digital twins are crucial for achieving lasting savings.

‘Bankable Climate Projects – Making the Business Case’ delved into transforming climate goals into investable projects within MENA region Experts noted liquidity isn’t barrier but grid readiness regulatory clarity predictable revenue streams are Success depends on long-term policy stability reliable PPAs evolving guarantee structures building investor confidence Innovative instruments such as green bonds diversify capital attract institutional investors especially during refinancing Speakers also highlighted importance integrated planning circular economy approaches clear strategies asset recycling ensure projects remain viable sustainable attractive financiers over decades.

The exhibition aims to foster collaboration between DEWA suppliers while promoting sustainability efforts within circular economy frameworks These interactive seminars panel discussions provide valuable insights into advancing clean technologies ensuring resilient future-ready infrastructure across sectors.
