Heavy Rainfall: Adverse Weather Warnings Issued In Saudi Arabia, Qatar And Oman

As heavy rains lashed various parts of the UAE on Thursday morning, three other GCC nations were also issued adverse weather warnings on May 2 — Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Oman.

Saudi Arabia's National Center for Meteorology has issued a weather forecast predicting dust-stirring winds and the possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall, which may be accompanied by hail in various regions. The Eastern Region, Riyadh, Najran, Jazan, and Asir are expected to experience these conditions, SPA reported.

Meanwhile, Al-Baha and the southern parts of Makkah highlands may see light to moderate rainfall. Parts of the Northern Borders and Al-Jouf are forecasted to face strong winds, with the sky varying from partly cloudy to cloudy. Fog formation is also a possibility in these areas.

Marine conditions in the Red Sea are anticipated to have northeasterly to northwesterly winds, with speeds ranging from 12-40 km/h in the northern and central parts and northwesterly to southwesterly winds at speeds of 10-50 km/h in the southern part.

Wave heights could reach up to more than two meters in certain areas, making the sea state vary from calm to choppy. The Arabian Gulf is expected to exhibit similar conditions with variable wind speeds and wave heights.

In Qatar, the Department of Meteorology has alerted residents and sailors to prepare for challenging weather conditions. The forecast includes cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rain and possible thunderstorms, according to Qatar Tribune.

This may lead to reduced visibility and challenging maritime conditions due to strong winds and high seas. Wind speeds are expected to fluctuate, and sea states could become tumultuous with wave heights significantly increasing during thundery conditions.

Oman is also experiencing varied weather conditions with rainfall of different intensities affecting parts of the country. According to Times Of Oman, the Civil Aviation Authority of Oman has issued alerts for heavy thundershowers, which could lead to flash floods.

Areas such as Al Buraimi, North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, and Al Dhahira, among others, are expected to be impacted. Residents are advised to exercise caution, particularly during thundershowers, and to avoid crossing Wadis and low-lying areas.

As these weather conditions continue to develop across Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman, residents and travelers are urged to stay updated on the latest weather reports and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and well-being.
