Jazan And Beesh Dams Upgraded With Advanced Water Monitoring Stations
The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA) has initiated the installation of advanced electronic devices to monitor water levels in Jazan Dam Lake and Beesh Dam. These devices come with data transfer systems that display and analyse information, aiding in effective decision-making for dam gate operations.
MEWA's project aims to enhance the monitoring of variables affecting groundwater and surface water resources. This includes measuring rainfall amounts, evaporation rates, surface water levels in dam lakes, and groundwater levels. The goal is to develop a comprehensive system for monitoring and analysing water-related data across the Kingdom.

Currently, MEWA is implementing two significant projects to monitor water resources. In the first stage, 200 devices are being installed to measure water levels in dam lakes, along with 800 surveillance cameras to transmit real-time changes occurring in these dams.
According to MEWA, existing and newly implemented measurement points for groundwater and surface water resources have reached 1,400. Additionally, 32 rain gauges have been installed in the governorates and villages of Riyadh, Asir, Jazan, and Al-Baha administrative regions. Efforts are ongoing to expand this project to other regions within the Kingdom.
In future plans, MEWA intends to install 70 rain gauges, 20 devices for monitoring climate factors, 20 devices for measuring water levels in dam lakes, and 60 devices for tracking changes in groundwater levels.
This initiative by MEWA is crucial for improving water resource management in Saudi Arabia. By leveraging advanced technology for real-time data collection and analysis, the ministry aims to ensure sustainable water usage and better preparedness against potential water-related challenges.
