Saudi Water Authority Implements Effective Water Supply Operations In Makkah And Madinah During Ramadan

The Saudi Water Authority successfully executed its operational strategies for the water system during Ramadan. This ensured a reliable and safe water supply to Umrah performers, visitors, and residents in Makkah and Madinah. The authority managed this despite a significant increase in worshippers and Umrah performers during the holy month.

To meet the heightened demand, the authority integrated its production, transportation, and distribution sectors effectively. This integration significantly increased production capacity through water desalination, reaching over 132 million cubic meters during the season. The Shuaiba 5 station played a crucial role with its high operational efficiency and advanced technology.

Effective Water Operations in Makkah and Madinah

The National Water Company addressed the unprecedented rise in water demand by implementing an extensive operational and technical plan. Over 45 million cubic meters of water were distributed in both Makkah and Madinah. The daily pumping rate in served neighborhoods was maintained for 21 hours a day, with continuous pumping for the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque.

Intelligent monitoring systems supported these efforts alongside dedicated operational teams. Additionally, more than 4 million cubic meters of renewable water were distributed for agricultural irrigation. These measures ensured efficient water supply and addressed rising demand during Ramadan.

The authority emphasized that these initiatives are part of a comprehensive strategy aligning with growing demand. They highlighted the infrastructure's preparedness and the system's effectiveness in ensuring resource sustainability, service quality, and a comfortable environment during Ramadan.

In response to significant demand in Makkah and Madinah, initiatives intensified across all cities and regions of the Kingdom. This included villages and centers through flexible operational plans guaranteeing continuous water supply. These plans enhanced distribution efficiency to meet heightened demand effectively.

Sustainability Goals

The initiatives involved improving operational readiness by increasing monitoring measures and deploying field support teams continuously. This ensured effective delivery of high-quality water to beneficiaries across different regions of the Kingdom. These efforts align with sustainability objectives set by the Saudi Water Authority.

Pumping capacities were enhanced via transmission systems exceeding 171 million cubic meters. This ensured efficient supply while addressing rising demand during Ramadan. The World Bank report on the water sector commended Shuaiba 5 station's technology consuming only 2.34 KW/h per cubic meter.

The Saudi Water Authority's comprehensive strategy ensures resource sustainability while maintaining service quality during peak periods like Ramadan. Their initiatives demonstrate preparedness in meeting increased demands efficiently across various regions within Saudi Arabia.
