Paul Waring Holds Narrow Lead In Final Round Of Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship
Paul Waring's lead at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship shrank to just one stroke before the final round. The English golfer began the day with a five-shot advantage but ended with a one-over 73. His 18-under-par total now places him just ahead of Niklas Nørgaard, while Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry, Thorbjørn Olesen, and Sebastian Söderberg are tied for third at 15 under.
Waring's round began with a challenge as he found a bunker on his first tee shot. He managed to save par from eight feet on the first hole. He then birdied the par-five second and hit his tee shot to eight feet on the fourth. However, he missed his birdie attempt and subsequent putts over nine holes. A sand trap on the 14th led to another missed par save from 15 feet.

Tommy Fleetwood had an inconsistent round, carding four birdies alongside three bogeys for a score of 71. He aims for his third title in this championship after wins in 2017 and 2018. Shane Lowry, a major winner and the 2019 champion, started strong with an eagle on the second hole. He was six under at the turn but finished with seven pars followed by a bogey and birdie for a score of 66.
Niklas Nørgaard dropped his first shot of the week at the ninth during his round of 69. Despite this setback, he expressed confidence in competing at this level as he seeks his second DP World Tour title and first Rolex Series win.
Thomas Detry delivered an outstanding performance with six consecutive birdies to start his round. He added four more after the turn, finishing with a score of 62—just one short of Waring's course record set on Friday.
Waring had previously executed an impressive fairway wood shot within four feet on Friday but found himself in a greenside bunker this time around, resulting in his 15th par of the day.
The tournament remains competitive as players head into the final round with several contenders close behind Waring's lead.
