Wage Protection Program Strengthens Labour Market Integrity In Saudi Arabia
The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development leads the Wage Protection Program to foster a fair work environment in Saudi Arabia's private sector. The initiative seeks to enhance transparency, boost the labour market's appeal, and protect the rights of both local and foreign workers, as well as employers. This program was introduced in 2020 via the Mudad platform.
In 2024, an impressive 88% of private sector businesses adopted the program, ensuring wage protection for over 8.5 million employees. This equates to more than 300,000 wage files processed monthly, totalling SAR35 billion. The program initially targeted 300 establishments but has since expanded to cover over 900,000 institutions.

The program has had a positive impact on Saudi Arabia's global standing by helping it rank second in combating human trafficking crimes. It has also reduced incidents of commercial cover-up crimes and decreased reliance on cash transactions. By creating a secure work environment for expatriates, it has attracted foreign investment.
A significant reduction in labour disputes, including those involving micro-enterprises, is another benefit of the program. The user-friendly Mudad platform plays a crucial role in this success. It integrates with local banks' networks to facilitate easy salary transfers for businesses.
The Payroll Management System within the Mudad platform ensures compliance across all private sector establishments. This system allows for seamless salary transfers and efficient customer support for both employers and employees. As a result, widespread adherence to the program has been achieved.
Overall, the Wage Protection Program has significantly improved Saudi Arabia's labour market by enhancing transparency and safeguarding workers' rights. Its success is evident in its broad adoption and positive outcomes for both employees and employers.
