Wadi Mira Restoration Project Promotes Ecological Balance And Sustainability In Northern Borders

Wadi Mira, located in the Northern Borders Region, has seen significant rehabilitation efforts. These efforts focus on cultivating native plants using advanced techniques. This initiative aligns with Saudi Vision 2030's emphasis on environmental projects and conserving natural resources. The valley spans 140 kilometers from southwest Hazm Al-Jalamid to the Iraqi border, making it ecologically vital and a favorite among locals and nature enthusiasts.

Ma’aden Company has played a crucial role in this project by planting 2,450 native trees such as Sidr, Acacia, Prosopis cineraria, and Tamarix aphylla along a 1,000-meter stretch of Wadi Mira's western side. This effort aims to restore the valley's ecological balance. Additionally, 3.6 million seedlings have been distributed over 9 million cubic meters as part of the green initiative.

Wadi Mira Project Enhances Local Ecosystem

The rehabilitation project not only restores ecological balance but also creates habitats for wildlife. It combats desertification and mitigates climate change effects. The valley now supports diverse bird species and wildlife, showcasing the project's success in rejuvenating local ecosystems while maintaining natural equilibrium.

Wadi Mira is particularly popular during rainy seasons when streams flow and greenery flourishes. This natural beauty attracts both residents and tourists who enjoy the valley's scenic landscapes. The project aims to plant 20 million trees by 2040 using renewable water sources, aligning with the Saudi Green Initiative.

Hazm Al-Jalamid, located north of Saudi Arabia between Arar and Turaif, has evolved from a village into the Kingdom's phosphate capital. The phosphate mine here significantly boosts the national economy by producing essential minerals for fertilizers that support global agriculture and grain production.

The transformation of Wadi Mira into a sustainable sanctuary serves both residents' needs and tourism while preserving the environment and supporting local communities. Through these efforts, Ma’aden aims to create a harmonious balance between industrial growth and environmental sustainability.
