Two Volunteers Realize Their Childhood Dreams By Serving Pilgrims
The aspirations of volunteers Sondos Al-Darwish and Menna Jamil materialised when they successfully entered the field of lifesaving and volunteered to provide health services to pilgrims. Their journey began in childhood, driven by a desire to help those in need. They found immense satisfaction in the smiles and gratitude of those they assisted.
Al-Darwish shared, "My childhood ambition was attained when I joined a health college, where I learned the basic skills to assist patients. This enabled me to realise my dream of helping others." She began volunteering with the Saudi Red Crescent Authority in 2021, eventually becoming a team leader. Her role involves aiding pilgrims from around the world, many of whom face health challenges.

One notable incident involved a pilgrim suffering from chest pains, unable to describe his condition due to severe pain. Diagnosed with a stroke, Al-Darwish and her team applied their training and successfully saved his life.
Similarly, Menna Jamil started volunteering with the Saudi Red Crescent Authority four years ago. Her dedication led her to become a team leader as well. Jamil recounted an emotional experience with a blind female patient at the Grand Mosque in Makkah. After relieving her pain, the patient expressed her gratitude by placing her hands on Jamil’s face, conveying deep appreciation.
These experiences highlight the importance of social and community participation. The dedication and humanitarian spirit of Al-Darwish and Jamil serve as exemplary models for society.
