Saudi Arabia Celebrates Volunteering Milestones With Significant Economic And Social Impact

Volunteer work stands as a crucial component in fostering interconnected and prosperous communities, extending beyond simple acts of humanitarianism to embody a spirit of positivity, social, and national responsibility. This ethos is particularly evident during the holy month of Ramadan, a time when individuals come together in a spirit of teamwork and cooperation to partake in charitable works and voluntary initiatives. Such activities not only aid those in need but also reflect the vibrancy of civilization and the forward momentum that nations, including Saudi Arabia, aim to achieve.

Recent data from the National Volunteer Portal, as reported to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), highlights the significant impact of volunteer work within the Kingdom. From January to the end of 2023, the number of volunteers surged past 834,300, with their efforts reaching more than 75 million beneficiaries. This remarkable participation underscores the deep-rooted culture of volunteering among the Saudi populace.

The economic value derived from these volunteer activities is equally impressive, amounting to more than 1.23 billion Saudi Riyals. With 528,310 volunteer opportunities created during this period—more than double the annual target of 260,000—the commitment to fostering a culture of volunteering is clear. Furthermore, volunteers dedicated over 53 million hours to their causes, with each person contributing an economic value of 92.41 riyals, surpassing the annual target of 64.50 riyals per person.

The National Volunteer Portal itself has seen remarkable growth, with registrations reaching 1,810,205 individuals and 6,305 entities. These figures not only highlight the widespread enthusiasm for volunteer work across Saudi Arabia but also demonstrate the nation's dedication to social development and the realization of Saudi Vision 2030.

This surge in volunteering activity and its substantial impact on both social and economic fronts in Saudi Arabia are testament to the nation's commitment to building a cohesive society. By fostering a culture where volunteering is both valued and encouraged, Saudi Arabia continues to make strides towards achieving its ambitious goals for social progress and development.
