Dubai Teen Regains Sight Following Complex Surgery At Aster Hospital Mankhool

Aster Hospital Mankhool recently restored the vision of Dhikshit Kottiyattil Anoop, a 15-year-old Indian student. Dhikshit suffered a severe eye injury that risked permanent vision loss.

On June 20, 2024, Dhikshit was accidentally struck in the right eye by a ballpoint pen at school. The impact caused immediate pain, significant watering of the eye, and sudden vision loss. Initially treated at a local hospital, he was later transferred to Aster Hospital Mankhool due to the complexity of his injury.

The next day, June 21, 2024, Dr. Parth Hemantkumar Joshi performed delicate surgery on Dhikshit. The procedure involved repairing a deep corneal tear and removing damaged tissue from inside the eye. The surgery lasted about an hour and successfully stabilized Dhikshit's condition.

A month later, on July 25, 2024, Dhikshit returned to Aster Hospital Mankhool with significant vision loss in the injured eye. Examination revealed he needed a two-stage procedure for optimal results. He underwent cataract extraction and artificial lens implantation to restore his vision.

This complex procedure was led by Dr. Parth Hemantkumar Joshi with assistance from Dr. Gazala Hasan Mansuri. Dr. Gazala also performed a Pars Plana Vitrectomy and Peripheral Iridectomy during the surgery. The operation lasted approximately 1.5 hours and was successful in partially restoring Dhikshit's vision.

Dhikshit’s case highlights the importance of specialized care in managing severe eye injuries. "The success of these surgeries underscores the importance of specialized care," said Dr. Gazala Hasan Mansuri. "Prompt and expert intervention can make a significant difference in outcomes."

Pediatric cases account for about 18.9% of all trauma cases, with 63.9% involving severe open eye injuries often caused by sharp objects. Cataract development following such injuries is common, occurring in nearly 29-60% of severe open eye injuries.

Success rates for surgeries like corneal tear repair and traumatic cataract extraction vary widely based on injury severity. Despite these challenges, Aster Hospital Mankhool's expertise ensured that Dhikshit's vision was largely restored.

Greeshma Anoop expressed her gratitude towards the medical team at Aster Hospital Mankhool: "We are incredibly thankful to Dr. Parth, Dr. Gazala, and the entire team at Aster Hospital Mankhool." She added that their swift action saved her son's vision and provided hope during a frightening time.

The successful treatment of Dhikshit Kottiyattil Anoop showcases Aster Hospital Mankhool's advanced medical care capabilities. This case emphasizes the hospital's leadership in specialized healthcare and highlights the importance of awareness and preventive measures to avoid such incidents.
