Vice President’s Jiu-Jitsu Cup 2023 Begins At Shabab Al Ahli Club In Dubai With Intense Competition

The Vice President’s Jiu-Jitsu Cup's eighth edition commenced at Shabab Al Ahli Club in Dubai. The event drew a large audience, creating an exciting atmosphere. The championship began with official weigh-ins for categories Under-14, Under-16, Under-18, and Adults. Clubs and academies from across the UAE participated widely, showcasing their skills and determination to secure victories and advance to the finals.

Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, highlighted the significant growth of jiu-jitsu locally. He stated, "The eighth edition of the championship has witnessed exceptional participation from clubs and academies, reflecting the significant growth of the sport locally. Involving as many athletes as possible across all divisions adds value to the competition, and the combined efforts of the Federation, clubs, and academies result in top-level tournaments that prepare athletes comprehensively for regional and international events."

Thani Majid bin Suleiman, Director of Combat Sports at Shabab Al Ahli Club, expressed pride in hosting the event. He remarked on its significance in bringing together leading clubs and academies for strong competitions that contribute to local sports development. "The Vice President’s Jiu-Jitsu Cup holds a special place for us as it brings together leading clubs and academies in strong competitions that contribute to the development of the sport locally," he said.

Suleiman further emphasised that hosting aligns with UAE leadership's vision to advance sports. It also reflects their commitment to investing in future generations who will represent jiu-jitsu's future. The club is dedicated to fostering talent that will elevate jiu-jitsu within the region.

Bruno Lima, Head Coach of Al Wahda Club, shared his team's ambitions for this year's competition. He noted their previous success in winning last year’s adults category title boosts their confidence. "The title our athletes won in the adults category last year boosts our confidence to achieve more success," he stated.

Lima explained that they are focused on competing strongly across all categories this year. Their efforts are supported by intensive training programmes aimed at physical and tactical preparation. They aim not only to defend their title but also to strengthen their presence in every division.

Al Dhaheri praised Shabab Al Ahli Club for hosting with high standards befitting such an important event. He noted how this created an ideal environment elevating competition levels while highlighting emerging talents within jiu-jitsu.

The opening day featured preliminary rounds marked by intense competition among athletes eager for victory. These matches were driven by prospects of valuable prizes awaiting winners who would earn places in finals through skillful performances.
