Vice Minister Eng. Waleed El-Khereiji Advocates For Governance Reform At UN Security Council Meeting

Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Eng. Waleed bin Abdulkarim El-Khereiji represented Saudi Arabia at a UN Security Council meeting on Tuesday. The session, titled "Practicing Multilateralism, Reforming and Improving Global Governance," focused on enhancing global governance. El-Khereiji delivered a speech on behalf of Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah.

El-Khereiji highlighted the necessity to strengthen the international order's capacity to maintain peace and security, as outlined in the United Nations Charter. He stressed that current global challenges and ongoing conflicts demand an effective response from multilateral systems, particularly the Security Council.

"The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia stresses the need to combine effectiveness and multilateralism factors in the one hand and fair representation on the other in any serious endeavor to reform and complete global governance," he stated. This underscores Saudi Arabia's commitment to improving global governance structures.

The Vice Minister emphasized the importance of intergovernmental negotiations for reforming multilateral systems through the General Assembly, following Resolution 62/557. He pointed out a growing crisis of trust in the United Nations, especially concerning its ability to maintain peace and resolve conflicts peacefully.

He reiterated Saudi Arabia's call for Security Council reforms to enhance its effectiveness in addressing international developments and challenges. "The Kingdom is fully prepared to cooperate with the other member states to achieve this noble goal," he affirmed, showing readiness for collaboration with other nations.

Saudi Arabia remains committed to working with international partners to ensure that global governance structures are more representative and effective. The focus is on ensuring these bodies can meet their responsibilities effectively in maintaining peace worldwide.
