Dubai's New Variable Salik And Parking System: Peak And Free Hour Fares To Be Implemented

In 2025, Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is introducing a dynamic pricing model for road tolls and parking rates as part of its strategy to improve traffic flow throughout the city. This initiative encompasses the introduction of the Salik system with variable toll rates and a new parking tariff policy, including special rates for parking during events.

The revamped Salik system, set to commence at the end of January 2025, is designed to adapt toll charges based on the time of day to better manage traffic congestion. For early risers or late-night travelers, there will be no toll charge between 1am and 6am daily.

Dubai Unveils New Variable Salik System and Parking Rates

During the busiest times of the day, specifically the morning (6am to 10am) and evening (4pm to 8pm) rush hours from Monday to Saturday, the toll will be AED 6. To encourage travel during less congested times, a reduced toll of AED 4 will apply during the midday off-peak hours (10am to 4pm) and late evenings (8pm to 1am).

Sundays offer a flat rate of AED 4 all day, except when public holidays, special occasions, or major events alter the schedule, maintaining the toll-free passage from 1am to 6am.

Variable Parking Policy

Parallel to the Salik system, a new variable parking tariff policy will be put into effect by the end of March 2025. It will differentiate parking charges based on the time of day and the type of parking space. Premium parking spaces will be charged at AED 6 per hour during the morning (8am to 10am) and evening (4pm to 8pm) peak periods.

Other public paid parking spaces will have a fee of AED 4 per hour during these same peak times. Outside of these hours, from 10am to 4pm and 8pm to 10pm, parking rates will stay consistent with the peak rates. However, parking will be complimentary from 10pm to 8am and all day on Sundays, providing a respite from charges during off-peak times.

Event Congestion Fee

To specifically address congestion during events, RTA is also implementing a congestion pricing policy around event areas. Starting in February 2025, parking near event zones, such as the Dubai World Trade Centre during major events, will incur a charge of AED 25 per hour. This targeted approach aims to manage the increased demand for parking in these areas effectively.

This comprehensive approach by the RTA, through the introduction of the Salik system and variable parking tariffs, reflects a strategic effort to use pricing as a tool for traffic management. By adjusting tolls and parking fees according to demand and time, Dubai aims to incentivize travel during less congested periods, thereby enhancing the overall flow of traffic in the city.

This move is tailored to address congestion and improve traffic flow by encouraging motorists to adjust their travel times. With the implementation of these policies, Dubai continues to advance its transportation infrastructure, aiming for a more efficient and congestion-free city.
