According to Adnan Khalifa from the Aman Environmental Association, its presence indicates healthy biodiversity. The desert monitor is known for its large size, reaching up to a meter long, with a slender head and a strong tail marked with dark rings for defense.

The desert monitor's yellowish-sandy colouration, speckled with small spots, provides effective camouflage. This allows it to blend seamlessly into its surroundings. Khalifa highlighted that this intelligent reptile is active during the day and covers large distances searching for food like venomous snakes, lizards, and rodents.

Khalifa explained that when threatened, the desert monitor raises its body, opens its mouth, and hisses to deter predators. Found across various regions of Saudi Arabia, especially in the north, it plays a vital role in controlling populations of snakes and rodents. This contributes significantly to maintaining ecological balance.

Despite its intimidating appearance when threatened, the desert monitor poses no danger to humans. Its role in regulating other species helps preserve the natural equilibrium within its habitat.
