Modern Medical Technologies Significantly Improve Health Monitoring For Pilgrims In Makkah
Advanced medical technologies are playing a crucial role in monitoring the health of pilgrims and providing them with comprehensive medical services in Makkah and the holy sites. These efforts align with Saudi Vision 2030, aiming to ensure pilgrims perform Hajj safely and comfortably. A significant instance of this initiative is the life-saving intervention for an Indonesian pilgrim through the urgent care system, a key part of Saudi healthcare.
The Indonesian pilgrim's case highlights the efficiency of the Kingdom's healthcare model. After being referred through the "My Referral (Ehalati)" platform, which links healthcare facilities across Saudi Arabia, the pilgrim was transferred to King Abdullah Medical City in Makkah. This facility operates under the Makkah Health Cluster.

Upon arrival at King Abdullah Medical City, the pilgrim was diagnosed with sepsis due to acute biliary obstruction. Further tests revealed a pancreatic tumor that had spread to the stomach and small intestine. The patient was immediately admitted to critical care for urgent treatment.
A specialized team from the Digestive System, Liver, and Advanced Endoscopy Center conducted an emergency procedure using advanced endoscopic technology. Dr. Mohammed Saeed Khan, a Consultant in Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases and Director of the Endoscopy Fellowship Program, led this intervention.
The team employed the SpyGlass system, one of the most advanced endoscopic technologies available globally. They performed balloon dilation of the bile duct using a CRE balloon and placed a self-expanding metal stent under radiological guidance. This procedure successfully reopened hepatic ducts, resolving the acute infection.
The swift action taken by medical professionals underscores Saudi Arabia's commitment to providing high-quality healthcare services during Hajj. The use of cutting-edge technology ensures that pilgrims receive timely and effective medical care when needed.
This case exemplifies how modern healthcare systems can save lives through quick diagnosis and treatment. It also reflects Saudi Arabia's dedication to improving healthcare access for all pilgrims visiting holy sites.
