The visit of US President Donald Trump to Saudi Arabia, accompanied by leaders from major global tech firms, highlights the strong strategic partnership between the two nations. This relationship has thrived for over 90 years, spanning various sectors. Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdullah Alswaha noted that this visit signifies Saudi Arabia's growing importance in the global digital economy.
Saudi Arabia stands out as the largest digital economy in its region and a central hub for investments in artificial intelligence and cloud computing. Between 2024 and 2025, the Kingdom attracted over $13 billion in US investments, accounting for more than 90% of all international investments in AI, data centers, and cloud services. These investments were made with major tech companies like AWS, Microsoft, Google Cloud, Oracle, and Groq.

Alswaha emphasized that Saudi Arabia is not only investing in technology but also focusing on developing human capital. Collaborations with American companies such as Apple, Amazon, Google, and Microsoft are crucial in building the largest digital talent pool in the region. This talent pool now includes over 381,000 professionals.
The Kingdom is also leading globally in empowering women in artificial intelligence. It ranks among the top countries worldwide in this field. Alswaha highlighted these achievements as part of Saudi Vision 2030 under the guidance of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
On the space exploration front, Alswaha mentioned ongoing collaborations with US institutions. A historic mission saw the first Saudi woman astronaut travel to the International Space Station. This mission was conducted with Axiom Space, NASA, and SpaceX and involved advanced research in health and sustainability.
The Kingdom's commitment to space exploration is further demonstrated by its signing of the Artemis Accords. This move underscores its dedication to participating in the future $2 trillion global space economy.
Innovative Collaborations with US Universities
Saudi Arabia has formed innovative partnerships with leading US universities and institutions like MIT, Stanford, Caltech, and IBM. These collaborations have resulted in establishing 14 centers of excellence focused on fields such as AI, nanotechnology, and clean energy.
These initiatives are enhancing knowledge production within the Kingdom and accelerating innovation across various sectors. The minister attributed these successes to unwavering support from Saudi leadership.
The strategic partnership between Saudi Arabia and the United States continues to flourish across multiple domains. With significant investments in technology and human capital development alongside groundbreaking space missions and academic collaborations, both nations are poised for continued growth and innovation.
