A Yemeni woman performing Umrah faced a life-threatening situation due to a rare fungal infection. The infection, which rapidly spread to her upper jaw and right facial side, posed a significant risk. She was already undergoing chemotherapy for leukemia, which complicated her condition further. A multidisciplinary team at King Abdullah Medical City (KAMC) in Makkah intervened promptly to save her life.

The maxillofacial surgery team at KAMC acted swiftly to address the critical situation. They performed an intricate operation to remove a substantial part of the patient's upper jaw and the roof of her mouth. This procedure was necessary to control the aggressive infection's spread and involved advanced surgical materials and precise techniques to manage bleeding effectively.

Following this initial surgery, the hospital's sinus and skull base surgery team took over. They employed a minimally invasive endoscopic approach to complete the treatment process. This method helped ensure that the patient received comprehensive care while minimizing additional trauma during recovery.

Once the patient's condition stabilized, with improved vital signs, a customized oral prosthetic device was crafted for her. This device was essential in helping her regain basic functions like speaking and swallowing. After showing significant improvement, she was discharged from both intensive care and the hospital itself.

The patient continues to receive follow-up care at KAMC's outpatient clinic.
