UoS And UAE Scouts Launch Global JOTA-JOTI Camp To Empower Youth Through Communication Technologies
The University of Sharjah (UoS) recently hosted the Global Jamboree on the Air and Internet (JOTA-JOTI), themed "A World Shaped by Youth." This event, which runs until October 19, 2025, brings together over 100 rover scouts from Emirati scout commissions, UoS, and Al Qasimia University. Organised by the Emirates Scout Association with UoS and the Emirates Amateur Radio Society, it aims to empower youth through communication technologies.
Dr Khalil Rahma Ali, Secretary-General of the Emirates Scout Association, highlighted the event's role in enhancing the UAE’s global reputation. He noted that over two million scouts participate annually in JOTA-JOTI, showcasing the UAE’s leadership in fostering excellence. "The annual event enhances the UAE’s international standing and enables young people to connect with fellow scouts in more than 174 countries," he stated.

The camp encourages young people to explore radio communication and global citizenship. It provides a platform for scouts worldwide to share ideas without travel costs. The programme equips future leaders with skills in digital and wireless communication. These experiences aim to nurture cooperation, citizenship, and social responsibility among participants.
Professor Eid Kanaan, Dean of Student Affairs at UoS, praised the camp as a unique chance for cultural exchange and global engagement. He emphasised its reflection of national commitment to gender partnership and empowering women in nation-building roles. "The camp offers a vital platform for developing leadership and teamwork skills," he remarked.
The event features diverse activities like online sessions and radio exchanges connecting scouts globally on youth issues. Educational programmes include workshops, virtual seminars, talent showcases, and interactive challenges that foster creativity and collaboration. These activities help participants develop problem-solving skills in a dynamic environment.
Dr Rahma stressed that youth empowerment is a priority for the Emirates Scout Association. The association creates learning opportunities on international platforms to strengthen youth capacity for innovation and informed decision-making. Such initiatives are crucial for shaping leaders who contribute to sustainable development and global leadership.
Commitment to Extracurricular Activities
Professor Kanaan reaffirmed UOS's dedication to supporting extracurricular activities through its Deanship of Student Affairs. These efforts enhance students’ communication skills and prepare them for contemporary challenges aligned with UAE Vision 2071 goals. Participants gain confidence as they engage with peers worldwide.
The JOTA-JOTI camp not only enhances technical skills but also inspires community service participation. Dr Rahma noted that these hands-on experiences deepen understanding of sustainability and environmental protection initiatives. The camp fosters a sense of cooperation among young rover scouts.
This initiative underscores the importance of empowering youth as future leaders ready to drive positive change. By providing meaningful learning experiences, it aligns with the UAE’s vision for sustainable development while nurturing a generation equipped to meet global challenges effectively.
