UNRWA Commissioner Philippe Lazzarini Commends Saudi Arabia For Supporting Two-State Solution And Gaza Reconstruction

The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, acknowledged Saudi Arabia's role in supporting the two-state solution. During a UN Security Council meeting, he highlighted Saudi Arabia's collaboration with the European Commission and the Arab League in rebuilding Gaza after a recent ceasefire.

Lazzarini described this international partnership as vital for a political transition. This transition involves transferring UNRWA services to Palestinian institutions, aiming to ensure regional stability and protect Palestinian rights. He emphasised the need for full implementation of the ceasefire agreement and removing obstacles to humanitarian aid access.

UNRWA Praises Saudi Arabia's Support for Gaza

UNRWA is striving to resume education and healthcare services while expanding its aid efforts. A detailed 60-day plan has been developed to increase aid deliveries significantly, aiming for 500-600 trucks daily, compared to just 40-50 trucks in recent months.

Lazzarini expressed concern over Israeli legislation that could halt UNRWA operations. He warned that implementing such laws would worsen Gaza's humanitarian crisis and increase residents' suffering, many of whom depend on UNRWA's essential services. This move could also undermine the ceasefire agreement and hinder reconstruction efforts.

He called on the international community to provide urgent financial support to UNRWA. This support is crucial to prevent disruptions in life-saving services and counteract Israeli legislation threatening Palestinians' future and their trust in international efforts.

Collective Action for Stability

Lazzarini stressed that maintaining humanitarian efforts in Gaza requires collective action. Such cooperation is essential to ensure stability and work towards peace in the region. He urged global partners to unite in sustaining these efforts for a better future for Palestinians.
