University Of Sharjah And EU Delegation Host Inaugural Model EU Simulation In UAE
The University of Sharjah (UOS) recently hosted its inaugural Model European Union Simulation Game. This event, themed "EU-GCC Digital Cooperation," was organised by the College of Public Policy in partnership with the European Union delegation to the UAE and the Centre for Security, Diplomacy, and Strategy (VUB). The two-day initiative aimed to enhance students' skills in leadership, conflict resolution, negotiation, public speaking, and diplomacy.
Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of UOS, welcomed participants on behalf of Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi. He highlighted the significance of such interactive events in helping students apply their knowledge and understand international relations better. This aligns with the university's goal to keep pace with rapid changes in politics and diplomacy.

Lucie Berger, Ambassador of the European Union to the UAE, noted that this event underscores a strong commitment to strengthening the EU-UAE strategic partnership across various policy areas. She explained that the EU Simulation Model serves as an awareness-raising and capacity-building programme for UAE youth. It offers students practical experience to deepen their understanding of European Union institutions and decision-making processes.
The simulation sessions allowed students to represent EU member states under VUB guidance. They engaged in discussions on political, economic, social, and environmental issues relevant to current European priorities. This hands-on approach provided a valuable opportunity for students to test their negotiation skills and critical thinking abilities.
The event concluded with recognising outstanding delegates representing EU member states. Mohammed Amro was honoured as Delegate of France; Mujdoleen Ali as Delegate of Germany; and Shamaylah Viquar as Delegate of Czechia. These students were selected based on criteria such as knowledge, application of EU rules, negotiation skills, clarity in expression, and understanding of decision-making processes.
Additionally, Asmua Ali, Riyam Nashwan, and Maryam Al Nakabi received recognition for their exemplary representation of the European Commission. Their efforts in understanding EU policies were particularly commended during the event.
Commitment to Educational Excellence
The collaboration with the European Union reflects UOS's dedication to supporting national visions while enhancing its status as a leading educational institution in the region. Prof. Yousef Haik, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at UOS, attended alongside EU ambassadors and representatives from various European embassies and consulates.
This initiative not only empowered students but also strengthened ties between educational institutions and international bodies. By fostering such partnerships, UOS continues to provide its students with opportunities that prepare them for future challenges in global affairs.
