Union Association For Human Rights Engages At The United Nations Summit Of The Future

The Union Association for Human Rights (UAHR) took part in the United Nations Summit of the Future at the UN headquarters in New York. Mariam Al Ahmadi, Vice President of UAHR, led the delegation. The aim was to enhance Emirati and Arab civil society's role in shaping future human rights frameworks, thereby increasing civil society's influence on present and future developments.

The UAHR organised a working dinner with representatives from various organisations during the summit. Discussions focused on UAHR's vision for the Pact for the Future and recent changes in UAE's civil society landscape. The conversation highlighted how UAE leadership supports and promotes human rights initiatives.

UAHR Participates in UN Summit of the Future

UAHR's involvement in the Summit followed its participation in the 2024 UN Civil Society Conference held in Nairobi, Kenya, earlier in May. This engagement was part of preparations for developing and adopting the Pact for the Future and related documents. UAHR shared insights that contributed to civil society's feedback on this Pact, reflecting Emirati and Arab perspectives on global future issues.

On 22nd September 2024, world leaders adopted a comprehensive Pact for the Future. This agreement includes a Global Digital Compact and a Declaration on Future Generations. It represents an extensive international effort to adapt cooperation to current realities and upcoming challenges.

The Pact is one of the most significant international agreements in recent years. It addresses new areas and longstanding unresolved issues. Its primary goal is to ensure that international institutions can effectively operate in a rapidly changing world since their inception.

UAHR's participation underscores its commitment to influencing global human rights discourse. By engaging with international platforms, it seeks to contribute meaningfully to shaping policies that address both current needs and future challenges.

The UAHR continues its efforts to strengthen civil society's role in global discussions about human rights. Through active participation in international forums, it aims to ensure that Emirati and Arab voices are heard in shaping future policies and agreements.
