Unification Of Armed Forces Marks Vital Cornerstone In UAE's National Unity Journey
The 49th anniversary of the UAE Armed Forces' unification is a moment for reflection, especially for younger generations who did not witness the early years of the Union. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, highlighted its importance as a significant chapter in the UAE's history and nation-building journey.
On 6th May 1976, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and fellow Rulers issued a decree to unify the UAE Armed Forces. This decision was crucial in establishing a protective shield for the nation. Sheikh Mohammed praised the wisdom and foresight of the Founding Fathers, including Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, who played pivotal roles in this historic achievement.

In his statement marking this anniversary, Sheikh Mohammed addressed the nation's citizens and Armed Forces members: "Dear sons and daughters of our nation, brave officers and soldiers of our Armed Forces, Peace and blessings be upon you. I greet you on this glorious national day, which marks the 49th anniversary of the decree unifying the UAE Armed Forces."
The unification process faced many challenges, such as limited national human resources and varying military systems. Despite these hurdles, the determination of the Founding Fathers led to one of the most efficient processes in building a national army. This included advancements in armament and organisation, as well as developing national military talent.
Sheikh Mohammed emphasised that every Emirati should be proud of their Armed Forces' professionalism. The unification was a turning point in UAE's development, creating a unified identity that transcended local identities. It affirmed their commitment to protecting sovereignty and independence.
Over nearly five decades, tireless efforts have enabled the UAE Armed Forces to master modern technologies and military systems. The country has also entered defence industries to bolster national strength. These industries have driven progress by meeting significant portions of military needs and achieving self-sufficiency in various weaponry types.
The success in defence manufacturing has diversified the economy while cultivating national scientific talent. This has enriched capabilities in areas like space exploration, nuclear energy, clean energy, artificial intelligence, and government administration.
Sheikh Mohammed expressed gratitude to President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his dedication to advancing the Armed Forces over nearly 45 years. Initiatives like Wahat Al Karama honour fallen heroes and strengthen bonds between leadership and people.
He concluded with a prayer: "I pray to Almighty Allah to bless the efforts of our President and his fellow Supreme Council Members, the Rulers of the Emirates. May Allah safeguard our country, maintain our security and prosperity, and grant us the strength to continue elevating our beloved nation."
