UNCCD COP16 Emphasises Combating Land Degradation

Through its leadership of COP16, Saudi Arabia aims to bolster global efforts in land protection and sustainable management. The goals include rehabilitating 1.5 billion hectares by 2030 and aligning with the three Rio Conventions' objectives. Additionally, expanding partnerships between public and private sectors is a priority.

The private sector's involvement is vital in supporting research and innovation. It also helps bridge the financial gap needed to achieve land degradation neutrality, estimated at $1 billion daily. Al-Fadley emphasized this during his speech.

The Business for Land Forum showcases a commitment to strengthening partnerships between convention parties and private-sector stakeholders. Aligning institutional strategies with sustainable development goals is crucial for success.

Al-Fadley concluded by urging teamwork for sustainable land management and rehabilitation. He stressed that collective efforts are essential in addressing global environmental challenges, ensuring the well-being of current and future generations.
