GCC Secretary General Albudaiwi Welcomes UN Resolution For ICJ Advisory Opinion On Israel’s Obligations To Palestinians
The Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, expressed approval for a resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly. This resolution, submitted by Norway in collaboration with Saudi Arabia and other nations, seeks an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Israel's responsibilities regarding activities supporting Palestinians in occupied territories.
Albudaiwi highlighted that this resolution signifies a global consensus on aiding Palestinians to overcome their challenges. He stated it underscores the legitimate right of Palestinians to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state that respects all their rights.

The GCC Secretary General also referenced the 45th GCC Supreme Council's final statement from December 2024. This statement emphasised the importance of resolving the Palestinian issue and ending Israeli occupation. It affirmed support for Palestinian sovereignty over all occupied territories.
Furthermore, Albudaiwi called on countries to complete procedures recognising the State of Palestine. He urged collective action to achieve a lasting solution that ensures an independent Palestinian state based on 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, aligning with the Arab Peace Initiative and international resolutions.
This development reflects a significant international effort towards addressing longstanding issues in the region. It highlights ongoing diplomatic efforts to secure peace and stability for Palestinians while respecting their rights and aspirations.
