UN Experts Demand Immediate Action Against Israeli Violations Of Gaza's Health Rights

Two independent experts from the United Nations have urged an end to what they describe as a "blatant disregard of the right to health in Gaza." This follows a recent raid on Kamal Adwan Hospital and the arrest of its director. The experts highlighted ongoing concerns about health rights violations in Gaza and other occupied Palestinian territories.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has raised alarms about civilian safety in Gaza. According to OCHA, Israeli military actions have led to evacuations in large areas, including North Gaza and Deir al Balah. Strikes have been reported in Al Mawasi, where residents were instructed to seek shelter.

Dr. Tlaleng Mofokeng and Francesca Albanese, appointed by the UN Human Rights Council, issued a joint statement condemning Israel's actions. They expressed horror at reports from North Gaza, particularly concerning attacks on healthcare workers and facilities like Kamal Adwan Hospital. The experts stressed the need for Israel to uphold health and life rights across all occupied territories.

The experts also called for the release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya and other detained healthcare professionals. They emphasized that respecting these rights is crucial for maintaining humanitarian standards in conflict zones.

OCHA's statement highlighted that over 80 percent of Gaza remains under Israeli evacuation orders without revocation. The agency warned that each day without a ceasefire increases civilian suffering. It noted that many attempts to move aid workers within Gaza face denial or disruption by Israeli authorities.

According to OCHA, 39 percent of UN efforts to relocate aid personnel were blocked by Israeli forces, with another 18 percent facing ground-level disruptions or obstacles. This situation complicates humanitarian assistance efforts significantly.

The ongoing conflict has severely impacted healthcare access in Gaza, with numerous hospitals destroyed or damaged. The international community continues to call for measures ensuring civilians' safety and access to essential services amid escalating tensions.
