Dubai Hosts The 5th UITP MENA Transport Congress & Exhibition On Sustainable Mobility

The 5th UITP MENA Transport Congress & Exhibition, a pivotal event in Dubai, underscored the critical role of sustainable mobility and well-being in urban development. Hosted by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in collaboration with the International Association of Public Transport (UITP), this gathering drew over 1,500 participants from 58 nations. The congress delved into the significance of public transportation in enhancing urban environments and its influence on city reputations.

Key discussions at the congress focused on the necessity for sustainable investments and the integration of public transit systems with first and last-mile solutions to diminish reliance on private vehicles. Moreover, the event spotlighted the essential investment in transport infrastructure and the adoption of advanced technology and artificial intelligence to boost efficiency and accessibility. An exhibition accompanying the congress showcased the latest advancements in transportation and mobility technologies.

Dubai's UITP MENA Congress Focuses on Mobility

Mohamed Mezghani, Secretary-General of UITP, lauded the congress's success, attributing it to the efforts of Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of RTA, and the organizing committee. Mezghani extended his appreciation to exhibitors and speakers for their valuable contributions to the discourse. He also announced that the next congress would take place in Salalah, followed by a Transport Summit in Hamburg, before returning to Dubai in 2026.

Anjes Tjarks, Senator of the Ministry of Transport and Mobility of Hamburg, Germany, shared insights into Hamburg's strategic approach to transportation, including plans to expand metro lines and public transport routes. Al Tayer and Tjarks were presented with a flag by Mezghani, symbolizing Hamburg's hosting of upcoming UITP Global Transport Summits in 2025 and Dubai's hosting in 2026.

Dubai is poised to host the UITP Global Public Transport Summit in 2026 for the second time. This significant event is expected to convene over 1,900 members from 100 countries, focusing on innovative public transit solutions. With an anticipated attendance exceeding 15,000, the summit underscores its importance within the transportation sector.

The congress covered a broad spectrum of topics such as artificial intelligence, green mobility, adaptable infrastructure, big data for urban planning, improving public transportation perceptions, and enhancing living standards. Its aim was to foster sustainable urban transit solutions and facilitate international knowledge exchange.

Major sponsors like Etisalat, Hyundai, and United Motors & Heavy Equipment Co., among others, supported the congress. This platform not only highlighted innovative transport and mobility solutions but also welcomed dignitaries from various national and international entities.
