Uber Launches New Teen-Friendly Ride Service In The Middle East To Boost Safety
Uber has unveiled a novel service tailored specifically for families in the UAE, Saudi Arabia (KSA), Qatar, and Jordan. The service, known as Uber Teens Accounts, aims to provide a secure and supervised way for teenagers aged 13 to 17 to request rides. This initiative is set to significantly ease the transportation challenges faced by families, ensuring that parents or guardians can keep a close eye on their teens' travels.
Parents or guardians start by inviting their teen to set up an account through the Family Profile feature in the Uber app. Upon acceptance, teens will undergo a mandatory safety onboarding process, after which they can independently request rides. Pia Tabet, the General Manager for Uber in the UAE, Qatar, and Jordan, emphasizes the commitment to transparency and safety at the core of Teen accounts, aiming to facilitate safe and reliable transportation for teens whether they are heading to an internship or coming back from football practice.
Key Safety Features
Uber has integrated several safety features to ensure parents are informed and comfortable with their teen's transportation arrangements. Real-time notifications and live trip tracking allow parents to monitor their teen's ride, including details such as the driver's name, vehicle information, and drop-off location. A unique PIN Verification system adds an additional safety layer, requiring teens to verify the car and driver before the trip commences.
The introduction of RideCheck leverages GPS and sensor data to monitor the trip for any irregularities, such as unexpected stops or deviations from the route, ensuring immediate checks on the well-being of the teen and the driver. Moreover, the Audio Recording feature, which records trip audio for added security and stores it in an encrypted format, is a testament to Uber’s dedication to safety. This feature ensures privacy and security, as the recordings are inaccessible to drivers, riders, parents, and even Uber itself.
Communication between parents and drivers is facilitated to ensure guardians can reach out any time during the ride. Furthermore, the initiative mandates that only drivers who have undergone thorough local screening and background checks, and who have a history of high ratings and experience, are eligible to accept rides from teen account holders. This selection criterion reassures parents about the caliber of drivers their teens are riding with. Drivers also have the flexibility to opt out of receiving teen trip requests.
Uber Teens Accounts has been launched with the dual aim of providing teenagers with independence while ensuring parents remain informed and involved in their commute. This service is now available across the UAE, KSA, Qatar, and Jordan, signifying Uber's commitment to enhancing mobility solutions for families without compromising on safety.
