UAHR Rejects Port Sudan's Allegations And Calls For International Community To Protect Civilians

The Union Association for Human Rights (UAHR) has voiced its disappointment over a statement from the "Port Sudan Authority" dated August 4, 2025. This statement contained baseless accusations against the United Arab Emirates. The UAHR condemned this as an attempt to mislead public opinion and divert attention from serious violations of international humanitarian laws reported by the United Nations.

These allegations against the UAE are seen as attempts to hinder peace efforts in Sudan. The UAE has been a significant contributor to regional and international initiatives aimed at achieving a ceasefire and providing humanitarian aid to Sudan. The UAHR highlighted that such false claims only worsen the crisis and prolong suffering.

UAHR Calls for Action on Sudan Crisis

The UAE has extended substantial support to Sudan, with over AED 16.12 billion allocated, representing 4.5% of its total foreign aid. This assistance has increased significantly since 2023 due to escalating conflicts in the region. The UAHR stressed that these contributions are crucial for alleviating the humanitarian crisis in Sudan.

On August 5, 2025, UNICEF described the situation in Sudan as "the world’s largest humanitarian crisis," endangering children and families. In response, the UAHR rejected using statements to justify violations or evade responsibilities, particularly regarding civilian protection and ending systematic violence.

The UAHR underscored the need for adherence to international law as the sole framework for peace and stability in Sudan. It reiterated support for a statement by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, urging global entities like the United Nations to intensify efforts to protect civilians indiscriminately and hold violators accountable.

The association called on all stakeholders to work collectively towards resolving the Sudanese crisis. It emphasised that achieving security, dignity, development, and comprehensive peace for the Sudanese people requires concerted international action.

The UAHR concluded by stressing that preventing impunity is essential for justice in Sudan. It urged immediate collective action to end ongoing conflicts and fulfill aspirations for sustainable peace in the region.
