Rashed Al Qemzi Becomes Most Successful Driver In UIM F2 History With Fifth Championship Title
Rashed Al Qemzi from Team Abu Dhabi has made history by becoming the most successful driver in the UIM F2 World Championship. He clinched his fifth driver's title with a decisive win in Portugal. This victory on the Tagus River circuit at Vila Velha de Rodão marked his third Grand Prix win of the 2024 season, solidifying his record-breaking achievement.
Al Qemzi's recent triumph has placed him ahead of Sweden's Erik Stark, who held four F2 titles. This also marks the 18th world title for Team Abu Dhabi since Guido Cappellini became team manager nine years ago. Al Qemzi qualified second for the championship's final round, holding a six-point lead over Lithuania’s Edgaras Riabko.

Al Qemzi needed only a second-place finish to secure the F2 crown. However, he dispelled any doubts by overtaking Monaco’s Giacomo Sacchi, who started in pole position, to take an early lead. He maintained this lead comfortably and won by more than three seconds over Sacchi, with Riabko finishing third.
Despite mechanical issues causing an early exit, Mansoor Al Mansoori from Team Abu Dhabi secured third place overall in the championship. This followed his Grand Prix victory in Portugal the previous week. Al Qemzi expressed joy at sharing the podium with his teammate.
"I’m very happy to be world champion again, and I want to thank my team for the great support they’ve given to both myself and Mansoor this season," said Al Qemzi. He acknowledged that this title was particularly challenging due to tough competition and missing some podiums but credited hard work for their success.
Al Qemzi first gained attention by winning the Nations Cup and F4-S world titles before debuting in the F2 World Championship in 2016, where he finished ninth overall. His first F2 world title came in 2017, followed by victories in 2019, 2021, and last year when he secured the championship in Portugal with one round remaining.
This season's achievements underscore Al Qemzi's status as one of powerboat racing's top talents. His consistent performance has not only brought personal success but also contributed significantly to Team Abu Dhabi's legacy under Cappellini’s leadership.
