UAE Year Of Sustainability Invites Applications For Recognition Of Sustainable Initiatives By November 8, 2024
The UAE Year of Sustainability has initiated an open call to honour organisations in the country that have made significant strides in sustainability. Applications are due by November 8 on the official UAE Year Of website. A panel from the Year of Sustainability’s Experts’ Network, including Abdullah Alremethi and Ali Al Shimmari, will evaluate submissions.
Participants will be judged on several criteria. These include the genuine demonstration and measurable impact of their sustainability initiatives, innovative solutions, community engagement, and alignment with the Year of Sustainability 2024's focus areas: responsible consumption, water and energy conservation, wise planting, and green transportation. Continuity in sustainable practices is also crucial.

Entities that participate will earn the "Plan to Action: Year of Sustainability’s Seal." This seal acknowledges their sustainability efforts and can be showcased both online and at their physical locations. Additionally, selected entities will gain visibility on the Year of Sustainability’s website and social media platforms to inspire collective sustainable action across the UAE.
All UAE entities awarded the Seal will appear on the interactive Plan to Action Map. This map highlights their sustainability initiatives, allowing users to discover eco-friendly businesses and learn about their green practices. It helps individuals make informed choices supporting sustainability in daily life.
Rauda Al Falasi, Deputy Project Lead, emphasised the initiative's goals: "One of the key aims of the Year of Sustainability this year is to mobilise the efforts of individuals and entities across the UAE towards sustainable action. This open call highlights the role of changemakers, leaders, and innovators who have set the standards for sustainability in their respective industries."
Ali Al Shimmari from the Experts’ Network stressed entities' roles in achieving sustainable impact. "When industry-leaders embrace eco-friendly practices, the ripple-effect can drive real progress for our planet," he stated. The open call encourages organisations to share stories demonstrating how a commitment to sustainability can transform communities and industries alike.
Encouraging Nationwide Participation
The open call invites participation from all sectors—governmental, private, non-profit—including restaurants, NGOs, and educational institutions. It aims to foster a nationwide commitment to sustainable practices across various fields. Entities are urged to apply by completing an application form available on the official UAE Year of Sustainability website before November 8.
This initiative seeks to inspire renewed dedication towards sustainability while creating a lasting positive environmental impact that drives collective change across industries in the UAE.
