UAE Year Of Initiative Marks A Decade Of Collective Action And Social Impact

The UAE's Year Of initiative has united the nation for a decade, promoting national values and strengthening social ties. Each year, a unique theme inspires individuals and organisations to contribute to a more inclusive future. Through storytelling and partnerships, this initiative encourages meaningful engagement, raising awareness and driving change across environmental, health, social, and economic areas.

In 2025, President His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan declared it the Year of Community. This highlights the importance of community bonds and collective skill development in building an inclusive nation. The initiative calls for active participation from families, government entities, private organisations, non-profits, and individuals to foster a connected UAE.

Celebrating 10 Years of the UAE Year Of Initiative

Since its start in 2015, the UAE Year Of themes have influenced societal values and promoted sustainability. The Year of Innovation in 2015 focused on research advancements. In 2016, the Year of Reading encouraged lifelong learning. The following years saw themes like Giving in 2017 and Zayed in 2018 honouring philanthropy and the founding father's vision.

Rauda Al Falasi, Project Lead at the Year of Community, emphasised its significance: "The UAE Year Of initiative has always been a reflection of our collective aspirations... Each year builds on the next... ensuring that we continue to evolve as a society—one that is connected, engaged, and empowered." This initiative aims to inspire empowerment by encouraging skill exchange and collaboration.

The Year of Tolerance in 2019 promoted cultural understanding. In 2020, Preparation for the Next 50 laid groundwork for future progress. The golden jubilee was celebrated in 2021 as the Year of the 50th. Recently, 2023 and 2024 were marked as Years of Sustainability to drive environmental responsibility.

Collective Action for Progress

Al Falasi stressed collective action's role: "The success of the Year of Community depends on collective action... Government entities have the power to foster social connections... while the private sector can strengthen corporate social responsibility..." Non-profits also play a crucial role by connecting people through shared causes.

Under "hand-in-hand," this year's theme encourages all sectors to support each other's growth by sharing skills and knowledge. By fostering learning opportunities, it aims to create an environment where everyone feels inspired to contribute towards long-term progress.

"Every sector has a role to play—by working together, we can build a more connected, engaged, and thriving society." The Partner's Toolkit is available on the official website for stakeholders to align their initiatives with this year's theme.
