UAE Releases Whitepaper On Best Practices For Remote Work Implementation And Future Policies
The UAE's Office for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications has unveiled a whitepaper detailing best practices and future policies for remote work. This document, developed with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), aims to refine remote work systems by integrating global trends and insights gained during the COVID-19 pandemic. The focus is on creating a flexible and hybrid work environment using emerging technologies.
Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, stressed the significance of scientific research in driving sustainable development in government operations, particularly in remote work. He highlighted the UAE's commitment to using research to shape a tech-supported future of work, aligning with leadership's vision to elevate the UAE's global standing in various future-oriented fields.

The whitepaper titled "Remote Working in the UAE" explores the COVID-19 pandemic's impact on non-traditional work methods within the UAE. It emphasises data collection and analysis to improve productivity and community wellbeing through practical remote work practices. The paper also reviews outcomes from a forum organised by the office last year, which included discussions on proactive policies and global best practices.
The forum brought together ministers, leaders, and officials who shared experiences from both government and private sectors during the pandemic. They discussed planning for a future where remote work significantly contributes to advancing the UAE's economy. Key sectors like legal services, human resources, digital economy, innovation, and cybersecurity were highlighted as areas benefiting from enhanced remote work systems.
The document also examines successful global policies for implementing remote work across countries such as the United States, Portugal, Spain, Norway, Taiwan, and Türkiye. These examples provide valuable insights into effective strategies that can be adapted within the UAE context to enhance productivity and efficiency.
One notable finding from the whitepaper is that remote work systems have increased overall productivity by 4.6 percent post-pandemic due to reduced commuting times. This improvement reflects broader positive impacts across various sectors including skills development and workplace environment enhancements.
Future Infrastructure Development
Al Olama noted that sustaining development and advancing future infrastructure are key goals for the UAE. By leveraging artificial intelligence and digital technology solutions, the government aims to prepare its workforce for rapid global changes in digital fields. This requires intensified studies and expanded scientific research to develop optimal digital practices.
