UAE Weather Alert: Heavy Rain Expected On Sunday And Monday
The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a weather alert for the UAE, advising residents to prepare for rainfall on Sunday, February 25, and Monday, February 26. The forecast indicates a period of cloudy skies and showers, particularly affecting the northern and eastern regions of the country.
According to a senior meteorologist at the NCM, the forthcoming weather conditions will not replicate the intense rainfall witnessed on February 12. The nation is expected to see light to moderate showers in Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, select locales of Umm Al Quwain, and Ras Al Khaimah. Fujairah is expected to receive heavy rain.
The anticipated weather pattern is attributed to a surface low-pressure system originating from the Southwest, combined with an upper-air depression. This scenario is further influenced by a westerly trough, which will carry varying amounts of clouds from the West at different intervals. The NCM's forecast, released on Thursday, February 22, predicts partly cloudy to cloudy skies with potential rainfall, which may be heavy in some northern, eastern, and coastal areas.
Cloud Seeding Plans And Temperature Changes
The NCM's cloud seeding division is actively searching for "seedable" clouds suitable for cloud seeding. This weather modification technique aims to boost precipitation by treating convective clouds that resemble piled cotton balls. The technique will be applied if appropriate clouds are identified, possibly enhancing rainfall across the nation.
The expected temperature changes include a slight decrease on Sunday and Monday, thanks to northwesterly winds bringing cooler air, particularly to Abu Dhabi and the western regions of the UAE. However, the drop in temperature is anticipated to be minimal. The NCM advises caution for residents, especially those in mountainous areas, due to the potential risk of floods in valleys.
Wind conditions during this period could lead to dust and sandstorms, especially where clouds form, impacting visibility. The marine forecast also suggests slight to moderate sea conditions, with the possibility of becoming rough at times in the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea. The NCM remains vigilant in monitoring the evolving weather patterns, ensuring that residents are well-informed and prepared for the upcoming wet weather.
