UAE And US Deepen Strategic Partnerships As Energy Secretary Chris Wright Concludes Visit
The United States Secretary of Energy, Chris Wright, recently completed his inaugural international visit to the UAE. This trip underscored the enduring and productive ties between the two nations, with a focus on energy's pivotal role in their relationship. Both countries are committed to bolstering global energy security and market stability.
During his two-day visit, Secretary Wright engaged with prominent UAE officials and business leaders. Among them were Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology; Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure; Mohamed Alsuwaidi, Minister of Investment; Mariam Almheiri from the Presidential Court; and Yousef Al Otaiba, UAE Ambassador to the US.

In discussions with these leaders, Secretary Wright emphasized the importance of operational efficiency and technological adoption in delivering cost-effective energy. The meetings explored opportunities for collaboration in areas such as energy-AI integration, infrastructure development, and manufacturing. XRG, ADNOC’s international investment arm, is poised to strengthen partnerships with the US to meet growing AI-driven energy demands.
Dr. Sultan Al Jaber remarked on the strategic relationship between the UAE and US. He highlighted their shared commitment to energy security and prosperity. "Secretary Chris Wright’s visit has provided an important platform to deepen our ties," he said. The focus is on unlocking new opportunities across various sectors.
Secretary Wright visited several strategic energy sites during his stay. These included ADNOC headquarters and the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant, which supplies about 25% of the UAE's electricity needs under the UAE-US 123 Agreement for Civil Nuclear Cooperation. He also toured ADNOC’s Shah Gas Field, where Occidental from the US is a key partner.
Suhail Al Mazrouei expressed gratitude for Secretary Wright's visit, noting its significance in enhancing bilateral energy security efforts. "We dove into meaningful discussions that will take UAE-U.S. ties to new heights," he stated. The talks covered multiple fronts including trade and investment.
Exploring Future Collaborations
The visit also included a helicopter tour over the Al Dhafra Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Independent Power Producer project. This highlighted how crucial energy is for economic growth and global prosperity. Secretary Wright praised ADNOC as a "high-technology" company leading in AI adoption to maintain its status as a top global energy provider.
