UAE And US Enhance Strategic Partnership For Development And Global Peace

The visit of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to the United States marks a pivotal moment in the enduring relationship between the UAE and the US, which began over 50 years ago. This visit highlights the strategic alliance between these two nations, characterised by deep and stable ties from the beginning. The UAE remains a significant partner for the US both regionally and globally.

The UAE-US relationship is fundamentally strategic, with both nations committed to ongoing cooperation aimed at enhancing regional security, fostering economic prosperity, and addressing global challenges. Bilateral collaboration spans multiple areas, including development, politics, security, economy, trade, and defence. The two countries also share numerous economic and security partnerships.

The strong economic ties between the two countries are evident in the significant increase in non-oil foreign trade (excluding services), which reached $39.5 billion in 2023 compared to $23.8 billion in 2022. The UAE's imports from the United States increased to $25.9 billion in 2023, compared to $21.3 billion in 2022.

The UAE's exports to the US increased from $3.2 billion in 2022 to $3.9 billion in 2023. Additionally, the UAE's re-exports to the US rose in 2023 to $9.6 billion from $8.2 billion in 2022. The UAE's investments in the US amounted to $3.7 billion between 2018 and 2023, while US investments in the UAE reached $9.5 billion during the same period.

Several collaborative agreements in technology and artificial intelligence have been signed this year between both nations. In June, World Wide Technology (WWT) partnered with NXT Global to establish an AI Integration Centre in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi. This centre will be part of one of the world's most sustainable urban developments.

In April, Microsoft announced a strategic investment of $1.5 billion in G42, further enhancing collaboration in artificial intelligence and technology fields. The launch of the UAE's Hope Probe in 2021 significantly consolidated scientific cooperation between both countries in space exploration.

Space Exploration Initiatives

This collaboration was clearly evident in the UAE's new mission to the asteroid belt conducted with the University of Colorado Boulder. In this context, the UAE plays a key role in NASA's Lunar Gateway project by developing a dedicated airlock module for astronauts and scientists.

The module is essential for astronaut safety and mission operations and is scheduled for launch by 2030. Additionally, as announced last June, plans are underway for sending its first astronaut to lunar orbit.

Climate Action Partnerships

Climate action is a crucial aspect of cooperation between these countries highlighted by PACE (Partnership for Accelerating Clean Energy). This initiative aims at mobilising $100 billion towards producing 100 gigawatts of clean energy by 2035.

The UAE co-leads AIM for Climate with over fifty countries involved alongside five hundred partners promoting sustainable agriculture practices globally while Masdar invests heavily into eleven clean energy projects within America including Big Beau near Los Angeles.

Bilateral diplomatic relations were established shortly after founding UAE back then; embassies opened simultaneously across Washington DC & Abu Dhabi during '74 marking another milestone within their history together ever since then till now where they continue building bridges through dialogue trust credibility mutual respect ultimately enhancing international stability peace development prosperity worldwide peoples alike today tomorrow beyond future generations ahead too!
